Resort Information

The idyllic mountain town of Zell has the perfect location right on the lake, with the snowcapped peaks of the 'Hohe Tauern' mountains rising up to the south. The lake offers all kinds of water activities including lake cruises, rowing, water skiing and swimming. There is some superb walking in the area and you can join our walking escort (operated by our sister company) on 2 FREE guide walks per week. Zell town has a beautiful historic centre with a bustling, pedestrianised area with pavement cafés and a great selection of shops to browse on a sunny afternoon. Zell's central location makes it easy to visit other areas of Austria, including a day trip to Salzburg which is just an hour and a half away.

Walking

Several cable cars and chairlifts offer easy access to the mountains to enjoy some lovely ridge walks, including the famous 'View of 200 peaks' from the Schmittenhöhe. There are also some beautiful walks along the lakeside and from the little village of Thumersbach, on the far side of the lake, there are superb views across the water.
Our walking escort service (operated by our sister company) will offer 2 FREE guided walks, one of which will be an introduction to the area.
Zell am See and Kaprun lifts are open mid-June to October (Schmittenhöhe opens mid-May).

The pass gives unlimited access to all cable cars at Kitzsteinhorn, Maiskogel and Schmittenhöhe, and FREE entry to the indoor and outdoor pools at Kaprun and Zell am See. You also get FREE use of the buses around the area.

Activities

Most activities centre around the lake including swimming, pedaloes, motor boat tours, rowing, water skiing and also yachting and windsurfing (license required). Zell also has a riding school, indoor and outdoor pools, gliding, and in July and August a real 'must' is a trip on the Pinzgau Steam Railway. Cycling is a great way to explore the lake and the nearby villages and bike hire is available locally from approximately €17 per day.
