Resort Information
The beautiful clear blue waters of Lake Lucerne sit amongst the tree lined mountains of Central Switzerland. With its finger like fjords this glacial lake is the meeting point of four Swiss cantons and is the birth place of Switzerland and the legends of William Tell. There is an abundance of activities on offer, from lakeside strolls to mountain walks, from rope park action to relaxing pedaloes, and from interesting museums to indulgent shops. We offer accommodation in Lucerne and Weggis. The cultural city of Lucerne is at the northern most end of the lake whilst Weggis is an idyllic village on the sunny west side at the foot of Mount Rigi. 7 day Tell Pass - available in Lucerne will allow you 2 days of unlimited travel by rail, boat, bus & cableway and 5 days paying half price.
Walking
Lake Lucerne offers great walking possibilities and the majority of trails are well signposted with estimated walking times. The trains, steam boats, cable cars and mountain railways give easy access to the routes. There are a selection of peaks that can be accessed from Lake Lucerne, one of the most popular areas are the wooded slopes of Mount Rigi, where there are a number of paths catering for a variety of abilities. To reach the plateau a cable car can be taken from Weggis or a cog railway from Vitznau. There are also lakeside promenades for gentle strolls and plenty of fascinating streets around the old town of Lucerne to discover.
Activities
Lake Lucerne's excellent location close to Mount Pilatus, Rigi and Titlis means there are some superb excursion possibilities, plenty for the energetic and not so energetic. On the lake itself there are 20 boats, including 5 nostalgic paddle steamers, offering trips to the many pretty lakeside villages and towns, or round trip eating experiences.
For something a bit more active try some of the many mountain activities; these include mountain biking, horse riding, canyoning, kayaking, tandem parascending, and glacier toboganning (Top of Mount Titlis).
Pilatus is expectionally good for famillies and there are a number of activities that would suit a variety of ages. Not to be missed is Switzerland's longest summer luge (1350m), a rope park set in the pine trees, and a huge adventure playground for the younger ones.
For lake based activities pedaloes, waterskiing, motor boat hire, fishing and swimming are all popular. The Lido in Lucerne is excellent for a family day out, offering a place to swim, diving platform, mini golf, adventure playground and beach sport facilities.
